◇BIBLE TRANSLATIONS --- does it matter which one?
subhead;
○ TODAY all the Bible manuscripts we have are only valuable copies of the originals in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek---and most of them are in museums.  In any event, few of us are able to read these ancient languages.  So we have no alternative but to use modern translations.  It is essential, therefore, to use good discernment in assessing Bible translations to be sure that we are reading a faithful and accurate reflection on the original writing.

*manuscript; 1 a copy of book, piece of music, etc. befor it has been printed.
     2 a very old book or document that was written by hand before printing was invented.

*alternative; □noun.  a thing that you can choose to do or have out of two or more possibilities.
   > You can be paid in cash weekly or cheque monthly ; those are the two alternatives.
   □adj.  that can be used instead of sth else.

*discernment; the ability to show good judgement about the quality of sb/sth.
   > He shows great discernment in his choice of friends.

*assessing / assess; ( ~ sb/sth ) to make a judgement about the nature or quality of sb/sth.
    > It's difficult to assess the effects of these changes.
